Elementary classes disrupted by teacher dispute By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF School was anything but regular today (Friday) for students at local public elementary schools, after teachers planned a oneday political protest. As of The Oakville Beaver's press deadline last night, the Halton District School Board (HDSB) had made the decision to close all its elementary schools; however, there was a slim chance the decision could have been overturned. The potential for a decision to re-open schools today was dependent on an Ontario Labour Relations Board resolution expected as late as 10 p.m., if made last night. "We're huddled here and waiting for a decision," said director of education David Euale yesterday afternoon. At 6 p.m., the director said school board officials would wait HWY: 6.7L/100 KM CITY: 10.1L/100 KM until as late as 9 p.m. to make an absolute decision on whether schools would stay closed. If a decision to open schools was made late last night, Euale said the board would notify parents using its home notification system and board website (www.hdsb.ca). The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) announced Wednesday its 76,000 members across Ontario would hold a one-day political protest today, forcing school boards across the province to close their elementary schools.
