Economic experts to address Chamber Jan. 23 Two of Canada's leading economic experts will attend an Oakville Chamber of Commerce breakfast event on Wednesday, Jan. 23, to discuss where the country's economy is heading in 2013. Royal Bank of Canada's Chief Economist Craig Wright and Ipsos Reid Senior VicePresident Ray Kong will also inform those present about what they need to keep in mind when going to market. The event will take place at the Oakville Conference Centre, located at 2515 Wyecroft Rd. "We are very pleased to have the opportunity to host both of these distinguished individuals and are looking forward to hearing their inside perspective on the economy and emerging trends," said Julia Hanna, chair of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce. As chief economist, Wright leads a team of economists who provide economic, fixed income and foreign exchange research to RBC clients. As senior vice-president with Ipsos, Kong works in the financial services sector in customer experience, brand, operational improvements and strategy projects. He also leads Ipsos' ethnic marketing practice, working with all types of companies to understand and respond to specific ethnic and cultural markets and has recently been appointed Ipsos Global Financial Services practice leader with a role to act as a hub coordinating the marketing research company's work in financial services around the world. Members of the public are invited to attend the event. Seats cost $30 for Oakville Chamber of Commerce members, $40 for non-members and tables of eight can be purchased for the price of seven seats. Registration for the event begins at 7:30 a.m., with presentations at 8 a.m. The Oakville Chamber is the voice of the Oakville business community. Halton Region's last regularly scheduled influenza immunization clinic will be held Thursday (Jan. 17) from 4-8 p.m. in the auditorium at the Halton Regional Centre, 1151 Bronte Rd. This will be the 30th flu immunization clinic Halton has put on this season. "The peak period of this season's flu outbreak has been earlier than previous years. However, the flu season will remain into March, so it's still possible to get sick with the flu in the next few weeks," Dr. Bob Nosal, Halton Region Medical Officer of Health, said in a press release. "Getting the flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and to prevent spreading the virus to others." Residents can still get their flu vaccinations from doctors' offices, walk-in clinics and some pharmacies -- call the location ahead of time to make sure vaccines are available. While the Region states vaccinations are the best way to prevent illness, residents can also take other preventative measures to reduce their chances of becoming sick, including: coughing and sneezing into their sleeve, washing hands with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand rub, and staying at home when ill. For more information on the flu or the clinics, dial 311 or visit www.halton.ca/flu.
