Beloved husband of Marjorie (Hollett), married for 57 happy years, Doug was the proud and loving father of daughter Christine (John Kalisz), son Bryan (Ann Douglas), daughter Barrie (John Platt) and daughter Judy (Bryan Bando). Doug was extremely proud of and enjoyed the love and companionship of his many grandchildren: Ben, Thomas and James Kalisz; Alex, Marcus and Stefanie Pryde; Katie and John Platt; and Samantha and Doug Brennand. Doug was brother-in-law to: Shirley Pardy and Yvonne Chafe and the late Edna Hanlon, Oswald Hollett, Goldie Jenkins, Roy Hollett, Austin Hollett, Alvin Hollett, Lorne Hollett, Verna Regular. Dear brother of the late Thomas Raymond (Ray) Pryde, John (Jack) Pryde and Robert (Bob) Pryde. He was Uncle Doug to the many nieces and nephews from the Pryde and Hollett families. Doug grew up in Exeter, Ontario, son of Thomas Pryde from Scotland (Fife) and Jennie Beswick from England (Yorkshire). Although he eventually made his way in the world, growing up in Exeter made a lasting impression on him. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1943 and spent the rest of the WWII on the West Coast of Canada. Doug met and married the love of his life, Marjorie, in Newfoundland in 1955. They returned to Ontario, where Doug began his career with Canada Packers (CP). From 1967 to 1984, he managed the CP Division Feather Industries. In 1984 Doug with partners from Singapore and Taiwan purchased Feather Industries creating Feather Industries Canada. Doug was President from 1984 until his retirement in 2004. Doug had a reputation with business associates as a man of integrity. His friends will remember him as fun-loving, an a d e q u a t e g o l f e r, a d e p e n d a b l e c o r r e s p o n d e n t a n d a p a s s i o n a t e Conservative. To his wife, children and grand children, Doug was an honest, hard-working and loving man who believed in the importance of his family. Visitation will be held at the KOPRIVA TAYLOR COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME, 64 Lakeshore Road West, (just east of Kerr St.), Oakville on Thursday, January 17th from 2 to 4 p.m. The funeral will follow on Friday, January 18th at 11 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 89 Dunn Street, Oakville. A special thank you from the family to Dr. Sears for his dedicated care of Doug over the past 18 years. Condolences through www.koprivataylor.com KLARER, Allen Jan. 20, 1924 - Jan. 13, 2013 (WWII Veteran, The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada) Passed away peacefully on January 13, 2013 at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Palliative Care one week short of his 89th birthday. Pre-deceased by parents and siblings, his caring, giving, loving ways will be missed by Eve, his children David (Beverley), Lorraine, Barbara (Blake) and Rodger (Linda), his grandchildren Kevin (Stephanie), Brian (Veronique), David (Tracy), Michael (Alex), Christian, Daniel and Alexandra, and many other friends and acquaintances. Having an active life from a very early age, he was always involved in serving various aspects of business, community, country and his family. From helping his family during the depression he went on to join the armed forces which included being on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. Returning to civilian life, his path took him through Kingston and then on to Oakville- the town he loved and loved to do things for. Allen was the first CEO of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce from 1954 to 1968 and included president for the Chamber Executives for Canada and Ontario as well as a director and Canadian representative to the American Chamber Executives. Some of his other notable achievements included being a founding member of the Oakville YMCA-YWCA, the Oakville United Way and Halton Family Services. His career also included NHBA, HUDAC and Metro Toronto Services. After retirement, Allen remained extremely active in the community by being a long-term volunteer to several Oakville and Halton Region committees including the Elder Services Advisory Committee (ESAC) and Seniors And Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) He also stayed active physically in the community playing badminton weekly and walking up to ten miles per day until just recently - completing over 46,000 MILES - with the Oakville Place Mall Walkers. Allen, Dad, Grandpa, friend...you have so many experiences, certificates, awards and battle scars of life to show for all of your accomplishments. But, even more importantly, you have a family and many others who love, appreciate you and who will miss you and how you touched each of our lives. You will live on in our community and within our hearts forever.
