www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, January 17, 2013 · 8 Youth faces charges on Facebook gun photo By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF A 17-year-old Halton youth is facing multiple charges after allegedly posting a threatening message and pictures of himself holding a gun on Facebook. Halton police said they were made aware of the incident on Monday, Jan. 14 at which point they attended a Burlington residence where they determined the photo was posted. Police said the youth in question allegedly posted a picture of himself on Facebook holding a high-powered rifle with a caption uttering a threat towards another boy. Once at the residence, police seized two shotguns, shotgun ammunition and a rifle, believed to be the one depicted in the photo. The youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and who was originally identified as being from Oakville, was later said to be of Burlington. The youth has been charged with uttering a death threat, use of a firearm in the commission of an offence and unauthorized possession of a firearm. Halton police said threats of violence posted to social networking sites are actively investigated in an effort to keep the community safe. Meeting on abolition of nuclear arms The Oakville branch of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) will hold a discussion meeting at Oakville Town Hall Tuesday, Jan. 22. The meeting, running 7:30-9 p.m., will be the first of several talks focused on breaking humanity's dependence on nuclear weapons. Presenting will be Dr. Rebecca Johnson, director of the Acronym Institute for Disarmament Diplomacy and co-chair of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons.
