The two five-month-old kittens found abandoned on the doorstep of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) early Tuesday morning have had thorough checkups -- with good and bad news. "We are happy to report that the grey kitten is in good health. Unfortunately, the brown tabby and white kitten has had an injury that damaged his hip and spine, we can't determine how old the injury is which may affect the treatment options long term. We are currently treating the injuries as if fresh and hope to see some positive response. The kitten is comfortable and we will wait to see how he progresses before making any further treatment decisions," said Brenda Dushko, OMHS manager of Abandoned kittens treated, OMHS appeals to public for help 7 · Friday, January 25, 2013 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com fund development and communication for the OMHS. Among the passengers who arrived in Canada were newlyweds DeeDee and Ed Stadig. This arrival would plant the seed for what would become a staple of the Downtown Oakville community. Five years later, in 1956, House of Flowers opened its doors at 171 Lakeshore Road East. DeeDee and Ed's daughter, Heather, began working at House of Flowers in 1983 and would later purchase the business from her parents in 1995. Following in her family's footsteps, Heather has supplied countless flowers to Oakville's residents for all occasions including anniversaries, first dates, graduations, and weddings. Oakville is her home and she enjoys being able to share in the special moments of its residents, who are like a family to her. Now, 57 years after Deedee and Ed first opened their doors, House of Flowers continues to bloom. A quaint flower shop, rich in family history and a fixture in the Downtown Oakville landscape. House of Flowers is a proud participant of the Shop Local event. Shoppers taking part in the event can take advantage of deals and savings being offered by participating businesses in Downtown Oakville and show their support for small business owners like Heather.
