Sports Oakville Beaver Oakville Blades forwards Jonah and Nathan Renouf got some much-needed scoring help Sunday in Milton. When the twin brothers -- second and seventh in the Ontario Junior Hockey League scoring race, respectively -- don't put up points, the Blades typically don't win. In fact, Oakville has won just three times this season when Jonah Renouf has been held pointless, including a 2-1 shootout win over the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots Friday. So, with the brothers held off the scoresheet in their previous two games and the Blades being held to just one regulation-time goal as a team during that stretch, Sunday's 7-4 win in Milton had to be a welcome sight to the Renoufs' eyes. Recently-acquired forward Luke Laidlaw had a hat trick and added an assist, Spencer Green and Len Fabbri each had a goal and two helpers, and Patrick Chore scored a pair as Oakville enjoyed one of its better offensive outings of the season despite getting `just' two assists from each of the Renoufs. The Blades trailed 2-1 at the midway point of the game and were tied 4-4 in the third period before scoring the final three goals of the contest. Spencer Bacon stopped 26 of 30 shots to earn the victory. The previous evening at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, the Blades fired 42 shots at the St. Michael's net but could not find a way to beat Buzzers netminder Adrian Ignagni. Evan Buitenhuis took the tough-luck loss in goal for Oakville, making 29 saves. Last week against the powerful Mississauga Chiefs, however, the Hornets were reminded they still have a few strides to make before they can compete with the league's elite. Mississauga blanked the Hornets 7-0 Thursday at Joshua's Creek Arenas in an intense contest that included two body-checking penalties, two roughing calls, an elbowing minor and even a rare fight. The Hornets rebounded Saturday to defeat the Kingston Ice Wolves 4-1 in Kingston. Andrea Benac, Victoria Medeiros, Michelle Quick and Lindsay Stenason scored for Oakville, with Hayley Scamurra and Amanda Pereira earning two assists each. Camille Leonard made 19 saves to earn the victory. Oakville (9-9-7) will face another tough test this Friday, when it will host the league-leading Whitby Wolves at Joshua's Creek Arenas (8:30 p.m. start). The Hornets will then head east for games in Ottawa Saturday night and Nepean Sunday morning. Rory Bell scored Oakville's goal in regulation time, opening the scoring in the final minute of the first period, but the Patriots tied the game in the second period. After a scoreless third period and overtime, Chore scored the shootout winner. Buitenhuis finished the game with 41 saves, including 10 in overtime, and stopped all three Patriot shootout attempts. Pink In The Rink drew more than 1,200 spectators and was a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. Admission to the game was free, with donations going to the charity. The total amount of money raised by the event had not been finalized as of Wednesday afternoon, but players themselves raised more than $17,000. Local teams shine at Sabatino tourney Oakville house league hockey teams earned two of three division titles up for grabs, and five of six finalist spots, at the Minor Oaks Hockey Association's 12th annual Frank Sabatino Memorial Tournament last weekend. Both the atom and peewee white finals featured all-Oakville showdowns, while the Senators were the local representative in the peewee red championship game. The tournament, held in the memory of former MOHA director and convener Frank Sabatino, raised $2,500 that will be donated to the palliative care services of the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital Foundation and the Ian Anderson House.
