Memorable win for atom Hornets Gold medals weren't the only thing the Oakville atom AA Hornets girls took home from the recent Bell Capital Cup -- the largest minor hockey tournament in the world -- in Ottawa. The Hornets, who outscored their opponents 20-4 on the way to winning all five of their games -- also left with memories of playing at Scotiabank Place, the home of the NHL's Ottawa Senators; having their championship game streamed live on the Internet; and being featured in media reports by CTV and other news outlets. Oakville clinched the title with an 8-2 defeat of the Nepean Wildcats in the final, a team the Hornets also defeated 3-1 earlier in the tournament. Oakville's other victories came over the Kanata Rangers (3-0), Cornwall Typhoons (4-1) and Stoney Creek Sabres (2-0). Members of the Hornets are Sarah Campbell, Annabel Child, Madison Cote, Morgan Damery, Rachel D'Armiento, Amanda Guedikian, Quinn Kolwich, Paige Lester, Kate Lengyel, Sophia Lombardo, Kaitlyn McMahon, Erin McPherson, Gillian Miller, Francesca Monte, Amelia Smith, Olivia Wallin and Alexandria Wasik. Tia Glube and Reagan Lindsay were callups from the atom A squad. Steve Lester, Steven Monte, Mike Cote, Ruben Wallin, Wendy Lengyel, Chantal Wallin and Rob McPherson form the coaching staff. LEADING THE CHARGE: The Oakville minor peewee MD Chargers went 5-0 at a recent hockey tournament in St. Catharines, winning the championship. Gold in St. Kitts for MD Chargers Allowing just one goal in each of their games, the Oakville minor peewee MD Chargers won the championship at the recent St. Catharines Hurricanes John MacDonald MD hockey tournament. Oakville posted wins over North London, Oakridge and Woolwich to reach the semis. The Chargers then defeated Brantford 2-1 in overtime to advance to the gold-medal game, where they downed the host Hurricanes 5-1. Members of the Chargers are Grayden Stauffer, Samuel Moro, Hunter MacKinnon, Linden Tiels, Keelan Froats, Noah Westwater, Nolan Feddema, Angus Samson, Thomas Clare, Aaron Bis, Matthew Rouse, Michael Fabiano, Ethan Bis, Nicolas Dessureault, Justin Beaulne and Dylan Muscat. The team is coached by Ken Feddema, Jeff Stauffer and J.P. Muscat, and Chris Rouse is the trainer. Venom atom girls claim IEM title The Oakville Venom major atom girls won their first tournament of the basketball season last month, capturing gold at the IEM Basketball competition in York Region. Members of the team are Mackenzie Robinson, Amanda Morris, Arden Goodfellow, Emily Vieira, Aleah Corbeth, Taylor Bondoc, Aisha Ongendangenda, Tiena Neale, Cassidy Eckert, Vivienne Cruz, Sona Tissington and Margaret Lovtsova. People with Parkinson's Flourish Together at special Y programs Responsibilities for track coach Michelle Baptie, assistant coach of local track and field club Athletiques International, was recently appointed manager of the Ontario Youth Team that will compete at a Quebec/Ontario/Maritimes tri-meet Feb. 2.
