The Filman Family Jacob Conrad Filman came from Pennsylvania about 1776-80 with the Loyalists, and settled in Glanford Township near Ancaster. He bought the property in and around the present Willow Bank from Colonel Chisholm around 185O and settled his son, Captain James Conrad Filman on it. The land was covered by beautiful pine trees and Indian Point was the same. Jacob Filman took possession of 1,000 acres of land stretching to Indian Point. He raised a large family and he and his sons cut down acres of trees for firewood to keep his log-hewn house warm during the long hard winters. Filman's Corners just outside Aldershot was named after Jacob Filman. The first building prior to the present Willow Bank was known as a pirates' hide out. After James' death, the property was passed on to John Filman. In latter years, when John demolished the old building and erected the present Willow Bank around 1883, he found a pit of old muskets and shells that had been buried beside the house. The new house had another wing added to the old foundation, and it was during the excavating the pit was found. Jacob Conrad Filman Jacob had several sons and daughters; some unknown. Two of the daughters' married names were: Katie Hancock Mrs. Ashbaugh A son, James Conrad married Nancy Kerns. They had three daughters; and four sons: Sarah Jane married Felix Wilson Catharine married Wm. [William] Marshall Letisha married Mr. Glover, then after his death, Mr. Henderson. The four sons were: Jacob and Josh (Twins) John Dave Jacob married Matilda Sinclair. They settled in Glanford and later moved to Plains Road East, in the old house which was located back of Percy's present house. They had seven children: Gertrude (Mrs. Alvin Raby) now in Alberta. Margaret (Mrs. Harvey Payne) living in Percy's house at present. Hazel - not married; now living with Margaret.
