THE KLODT FAMILY - Descendants of Fonger Family David Fonger came from Germany in 1783. He settled on Crown Land, described as Part of Lot 5, on the Broken Front, East Flamboro. He was the first settler in Aldershot and a direct descendant of Mrs. Henry Klodt, formerly Sarah Jane Johnson. In the year 1830, David Fonger's son named David, came out from Germany and settled on his father's land, now called Concession Number 1, instead of the Broken Front. He also had a son called David who married Katherine C. Cline of Nelson. They were married in the Methodist Church in Nelson. They had five children, Nancy, Wesley, Jacob who died at 16, and two daughters who died at birth. Nancy Fonger married Robert Johnson at St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Aldershot in 1877. They had five children: Annie, Sarah, Ruth, Mildred and William. William died in his first years. Annie married Wesley Robins in 1905 at St. Matthew's Anglican Church. They had three children, Ruth who married William Depew had one son Garry. Ernest married Patricia Shepherd and had two daughters, Patsy and Mary. He had a second marriage to Rose Beatty and there were two children, Robin and Susan. Vera married Harry Sterling and they had no children. Sarah had twelve children. She married Henry Klodt at St. Matthew's Anglican Church at Aldershot in 1904. Their children were: Robert who married Jean Henderson, they had three children: Robert, Allister and Thomas. Earl who married Mary Newport, they had three children: Morely (Morley?), Ronold (Ronald?) and Kimberly. Ethel who married Leeming Oliver, they had two children: Melvin and Janet. Arther married Blanche Long, they had one son, Glenn. Allan married Lillian Christmas, they had two children: Diane and Terrance. Vernon married Alice Rankin and had two children: Verna who married Harold Watson and they had one child, Janey. Their other daughter named Janey. Anne married Benny Bendetti and they have two children: Peter and Linda. Dorothy married Panaldo Bendetti and they had three children: Doreen, Ralph and Glenn. Roy married Jeanne King and they had six children: Carol, Dennis, Verginia (Virginia?), David, Nelson and Elizabeth. Lloyd married Violet Ball and there were no children. Two boys died in the first year, (one was Frank) and the other was not named. Ruth married Cameron Baker and they had two children: Jean who married Howard Towler and had four children: Gienn, John, Francis and Micheal. Their other daughter Dora married Robert Laidlaw and had two children: Caroline and Janice. Mildred married George Shelton and they had two children: Joseph who married Iris Lomas and they had three children: Brien, Darrell and Nancy. Helen their other child was not married. When David Fonger's son John came of age in 1804 his father purchased 50 acres of land in the S. W. half of Lot 5, Broken Front. The land belonged to Hon. Peter Russell, Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, who succeeded Sir John Graves Simcoe 1796. Two years later John Fonger sold the land to the Dennis family who in turn sold it to the Wyatts. They
