THE HALL FAMILY Capt. [Captain] Wm. [William] Hall, Matilda Hall (wife). (son) John Campbell Hall, Ida Isabel Hall (wife) Capt. Wm. Hall and wife Matilda, came from Wellington Square, Burlington, in the year 1878. They settled on the Plains Road, in Aldershot, buying 32 acres of farm land from Joseph Doran. Wm. Hall's ancestors originally came from England and Irland. [Ireland] Matilda (Corey) Hall's ancestors were U. E. L. Loyalists [United Empire Loyalists]. Capt. Wm. Hall besides farming had two boats built [by] a cousin (Corey) who lived at the Beach. They carried cargo from the States to Canada. He also had his own sailing vessel, the family spending their leisure hours on the lake. One of the boats was named the Kathie Hall. It would sleep about 22 people. There were five boys and four girls, John Campbell Hall settling on the original farm. Capt. Wm. Hall was a strong Conservative and Orangeman, his son John C. following in his footsteps. By faith they were Anglican, affiliated with St. Matthews Church being on the board and taking a great interest in the building of the early Church. Wm's family: Dave, went to the Klondike. Will, son, died in his 30th year. Walter, lived only a few months. Richard, died at 2 years. Margaret Parsons, settled in Appleby. Liza, married Dr. Ethbert Emery. had his own Hospital in Kansas. Mary Lewis, went to Rochester. Kate, Mrs. Mercer, lived in Hamilton. John Campbell Hall's family: four children, two boysj Russell and Wallace, two daughters; Hazel, Mrs. L. C. Drew Gladys, Mrs. M. C. Sprung Russell, Mining Engineer, studied at Queens Kingston, now with Hollinger Mines in charge of ventilation. Wallace, farmed on the original farm and still has about 60 ft.
