The Hopcott Family James and Mary Hopcott came to Aldershot in 1900 and resided on the A. W. Brown property at Brown [Brown's] Wharf now La Salle [LaSalle] Park. They carried on a market garden for a period of five years and in 1905 bought 100 acres from John Jackson on the Waterdown Road consisting of parts of Lot 7 Concession 1, Township of East Flamboro [Flamborough]. About 1910 they sold 35 acres off the lower end of the farm to C.X.L. for a powder magazine. In 1912 they built a modern 8 roomed brick house to replace the old frame farm house. In 1941 they sold it to Alex Japp [Jupp?] and after a period of two years he sold the farm to John Taylor who still resides on it. James and Mary Hopcott had three children, Elsie, Doris (Mrs. Jack Akam) and Douglas. Elsie lives with her sister in Waterdown and Douglas in Hamilton. After selling the farm James and Mary Hopcott moved to Waterdown and lived with their daughter and son-in-law until their death. Mary Hopcott died in September 1948 and James in Feb. 1950.
