The George Sinclair Family Robert Sinclair Sr., came from Belfast, Ireland and settled at the Crossroads (Waterdown and Plains Road) where the Corners are associated still with the Sinclair family. In 1861 when St. Matthew's Church was built, the Sinclairs were listed as new members. Robert, father of George and Joe was a shoe-maker and soon the tap-tap of his shoemakers' hammer attracted the school children as he fastened the copper toe cans and orange sections for run over heels.
