... the time the Towers store and Aldershot High School were starting to build. Another house "Applegath" [Applegarth?] was occupied by Mrs. Lily Scott and family for several years; later by Wm. [William] Mitchell. Nearby stood a greenhouse and a family house, which was formerly a cheese factory. This was the home of Wm. [William] Crouchley during the ownership of Miss Emma Townsend. On leaving his farm home "The Hill" in 1903 Mr. Townsend travelled abroad for some seven years. He died in 1917 at the age of 83. Hannah, his wife, died in 1923 at the age of 91. They are buried in the family plot at St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Aldershot. The family of Thomas B. Townsend and his wife Hannah Greening were; Kirkby S. who went to Arizona, U.S.A. George lived in Dundas, Ont. on Governor's Road. Mary H. lived in Burlington, Ont. Emma E. lived in Aldershot, at "Oaklands". Thomas B. (Jr.) who owned a coal business in Waterdown lived in the original red brick house called "The Hill" overlooking Hidden Valley formerly known as "Applegath [Applegarth?] Hollow". He sold his property in 1926 to the Pannins [Panin?] and moved to Texas. Mary and Emma enrolled at Johns Hopkins training school for nurses in Baltimore, U.S.A.
