HISTORY of the Aldershot Women's Institute The Aldershot W.I. was organized on March 21st, 1930 at the home of Mrs. Allan Lancefield, under the direction of the North Wentworth District President, Mrs. J. Among our most faithful and dependable members are Mrs. Harry Stevenson, Miss Gladys Bowen, our press representative since 1933, Mrs. George Sinclair, and our quilt experts, Mrs. Henry Klodt and Mrs. Wilbur Nicholson who, assisted by less experienced quilters raised money for our overseas and war contributions. Many quilts, felt slippers, dresses, dressing gowns, layettes and socks were sent in 'Bundles for Britain and over a ton of jam was contributed from this branch. Our programmes have been educational, and the historical and cultural aspects have been stressed. Welfare work and village improvement have included the agitation to abolish village dumps, safeguarding level crossings at the R.R., a path for school children, village and road signs, stoplight, police supervision for school children crossing road, health and dental inspection in our schools. School prizes were awarded for swing, birdboxes, temperance posters, and historical essays. Delegates have been sent to all available conferences at Guelph, the County Girl's Y.M.C.A., the Y.M.C.A. School of Recreation. Courses directed by the Dept. of Agriculture, Women's Institute Branch under the Superintendents Mr. G. Putman, Misses B. McDermand, Mary Clark and Anna P.
