WOMEN'S INSTITUTE Pot Luck Luncheon and Annual Meeting of Women's Institute May 8th 1957 A Pot Luck Luncheon preceeded the Annual Meeting of the Aldershot Women's Institute, held at the home of Mrs. Henry Raab, North Shore Boulevard West. Mrs. W. J. Moore, first vice-president, led the meeting in the absence of president Mrs. J. Schultz. At this meeting the election of officers was held, and there was no speaker for the afternoon. Following the luncheon Mrs. Earl Klodt took charge of the meeting for the election of officers. The following ladies were elected: Honorary President, Mrs. E. Klodt; President, Mrs. W. J. Schultz; First Vice-President, Mrs. W. J. Moore; Second Vice-President, Mrs. W. S. Wickens; Secretary-Treasurer, Mrs. E. E. Bullock; District Director, Mrs. F. J. Huffman; Alternate District Director, Mrs. W. J. Moore; Directors, Mrs. F. McMillan, Mrs. Earl Hunsperger, Card Convenor, Mrs. J. Vyse; Telephone Convenor, Mrs. B. Linley; Auditors, Mrs. J. Quigley and Mrs. R. S. Cutler. Convenors of Standing Committees are: Canadian Industries and Agriculture, Mrs. H. Raab and Mrs. J. Gray; Community Activities, Mrs. A. Laidman Health and Economics, Mrs. A. Cantelon and Mrs. L. Jackson; Historical Research, Mrs. W. H. Crouchley and Mrs. E. Grant; Education and Citizenship, Mrs. L. Wills and Mrs. R. A. Bowron. Clipping of photo: Mar 29, 1962 Historical Study - Members of the Aldershot Women's Institute have been busy for the last three years making a concentrated study of the history of Aldershot. Mrs. E. J. Banks, Institute president, left, is seen with three members of the study group, Mrs. H. D. Gallagher, Mrs. H. Y. Stevenson, and Mrs. J. L. Carson. The institute presented an outline of their findings to the Burlington Historical Society last night. [March 29, 1962] Clipping: BURLINGTON - An outline of the history of the Aldershot area was presented to the Burlington Historical Society last night. Over the past three years, Aldershot Women's Institute has made a study of the area. Mrs. H. Y. Stevenson, the Institute's history convener, said the survey went back to French explorer La Salle who landed at what is now La Salle [LaSalle] Park. Mrs. E. J. Banks, Institute President, introduced other members who gave brief sketches on the early families, clubs and activities of the area. Speakers were: Mrs. H. D. Gallagher, Mrs. William Crouchley, Mrs. Earl Klodt, Mrs. S. Wickens, Mrs. William Felloes, and Mrs. Allan Lancefield. Mrs. Henry Klodt, a descendent of David Fonger, the first settler of Aldershot, attended the meeting.
