... Appleby Methodist Church made up his three-point charge. He drove a horse to Aldershot, conducted a service in the morning at West Plains and in the afternoon at East Plains. He was entertained for noon dinner in the homes of his parishioners. The ladies of the two churches worked together on many occasions. There was just one Women's Missionary Society. To raise money for the upkeep of the Parsonage, the church ladies held an Oyster Supper each October, at the Church. In the spring the main social event was a garden party. These were held on the spacious grounds of different church members, namely Jacob Peart, Ab. Smith, Wm. [William] Emery and Peter Smoke.
