Hornets snap losing skid Chetrat named OUA's top male swimmer The Oakville intermediate AA Hornets blanked the Aurora Panthers 4-0 Saturday at Joshua's Creek Arenas to snap a five-game losing streak in Provincial Women's Hockey League play. Andrea Benac, Jessica Prevette, Lindsay Stenason and Jennifer MacAskill scored goals for the Hornets, who had been shut out in their previous two losses. Camille Leonard stopped all 18 shots she faced to record the shutout, and Heather Platt contributed a pair of assists. Two days later, however, the Hornets dropped a 2-1 decision to the Cambridge Rivulettes in Cambridge. Platt had the lone marker for the Hornets, who were outshot 24-12. Oakville (10-15-6-1) sits 15th in the league standings, seven points ahead of 17th-place Leaside, with six games left on its schedule. The league's top 16 teams qualify for the playoffs. The Hornets will be home to Barrie Friday, an 8:30 p.m. start at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Oakville will then visit the Bluewater Hawks the following evening and the Southwest Wildcats Sunday afternoon. Oakville Aquatic Club product Zack Chetrat was named the Ontario University Athletics men's swimmer of the year at last weekend's OUA team championships in Toronto. The University of Toronto senior led the Varsity Blues to their 10th straight provincial title at the meet. Chetrat opened the meet by breaking teammate Frank Despond's OUA record in the men's 400-metre freestyle, finishing in 3:47.87. He then shattered his own OUA record in the 200m butterfly, clocking at 1:56.34 to beat his previous mark by nearly three full seconds. The 200m butterfly win was Chetrat's fourth OUA title in the event, earning him the Grand Slam award. The 200m butterfly is the event in which Chetrat came within two one-hundredths of a second of qualifying for last year's Olympics. Chetrat, an economics and political science major, also anchored U of T's record-breaking 800m freestyle relay team and earned OUA first team all-star status.
