Raising the flag 11 · Thursday, February 14, 2013 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Growing Companies choose to work with Habitat Halton The success of Habitat for Humanity Halton's work depends on volunteers and partners throughout the community. Without the time, talent and funds that are so generously donated, it would not be possible for us to provide homeownership opportunities to those who are in need in the region. Since this past summer, two corporate partners in the community have shown substantial Christine and Max of FlexLink ongoing support for Habitat Halton's work. FlexLink Systems Canada Inc. and TD Bank Group have both contributed their time and resources to Habitat over the last few months by sending some of their employees to volunteer at the Halton ReStore. We at Habitat would like to recognize their contributions and efforts. This year, FlexLink chose Habitat for Humanity Halton as its official charity partner. Since June, they have provided two of their staff to work in the ReStore for an afternoon every week. "FlexLink has really made a commitment to make a difference in our local community, and I have to say I'm extremely happy that [they] chose Habitat for Humanity," says Paul Hudson, Operations Manager, "Just knowing that my work in this store will ... help a family in real need of a helping hand, makes my day better." "It's great to meet people [who] are involved [in the community] and work together to achieve the same goal," says Xavier Le-Gros, Applications Manager for FlexLink, "The help we give seems [to us] very limited, but it was very well received." TD Bank Group of Toronto chose to volunteer with Habitat Halton for four full days at the ReStore as a corporate team. Since September, their 18 participating employees have also been contributing vital services to the operations of the ReStore and to Habitat Halton as a whole. "Now that I know where [the ReStore] is and how it gives back to the community, I have made it my first stop when looking at renovations in my home," says Keith Hunter, "My wife and I have been to the store three times since I volunteered and we love it!" This is the second time that TD Bank Group has volunteered time to the ReStore in the fall of 2012. The volunteers had such positive experiences that they wanted to continue contributing this year. "I would love to volunteer more often," says Beth Draper, commenting on the "wonderful staff and team-mates." The ReStore is a key part of Habitat for Humanity's operations in the community. By Keith, Richard, Nada, Angie and Bud of TD Bank Group selling donations of new and used building supplies and household items, the ReStore covers 100% of Habitat Halton's administration costs and ensures that all monetary donations go directly to supporting our community programs. Additionally, the ReStore helps to divert over 500 metric tonnes of waste from landfills every year by re-selling usable materials that would otherwise be scrapped. Habitat appreciates the ongoing and dedicated support of FlexLink and TD Bank Group to this important service.
