The event will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, 124 Dorval Dr., from 8:30 a.m.3:30 p.m. SSO Family & Community Worker Marina Sue-Ping said it's important to raise awareness of mental health among youths. "The earlier you diagnose the disease, the earlier you can get help and recover. "Some of the money goes towards our Be the One campaign, which tries to make young S people the agents of change. This program makes them aware of what is being done in their community in terms of mental health, makes them aware of what needs to be done and what could be done better." Sue-Ping said the Be the One campaign is intended to get people talking about mental illness, which, she said, is important because by talking about it, hopefully youths will understand it is not something to be ashamed of and that they can get help if they need to. St. Thomas Aquinas High School student Alec Mahoney, 16, said programs like the ones supported by the yogathon were essential in helping him when he experienced psychosis at the age of 14. Mahoney said his problems began following his Grade 9 exams. He said he began experiencing severe depression, which escalated to the point where he attempted suicide. And things soon took a turn for the worse.
