www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, March 1, 2013 · 12 BIA works to keep Bronte `the place to be' Canada Day Continued from page 4 In 2011 the BIA said the event drew an estimated 50,000 people. The 2012 event featured the traditional evening fireworks display off Bronte Pier, a vendor village, the Kinsmen Beer & Burger Garden, a Safari Science reptile show and musical performances. In Westjet's recent Best Festivals Contest, Oakville's Canada Day was ranked the sixth best event across Ontario and the 25th best in Canada. Despite the economic pressures being brought to bear this year, Sargent said, the Bronte BIA is working hard to hold another amazing Canada Day event. "The Town is still supporting us and working with us to see how we can still present the same calibre event without its (the Town's) financial support," she said. "We're pretty optimistic with the returning sponsors that we have and the approaches that we've made. Provided our members are in agreement and support our efforts given the change, it's full steam ahead." The Bronte BIA board of directors will meet on Tuesday, March 5, to vote on the BIA's proposed 2013 budget. "Our goal remains to regroup and deliver this important day of national pride for the more than 50,000 Oakville and area residents and visitors who call Oakville `the place to be' on Canada Day." Ann Sargent, executive director Bronte BIA The BIA membership will then vote on the overall BIA operations budget of which the Canada Day event is part. "Negotiations are taking place with more interested sponsors and we welcome more expressions of interest," said Sargent in an e-mail. "Our goal remains to regroup and deliver this important day of national pride for the more than 50,000 Oakville and area residents and visitors who call Oakville `the place to be' on Canada Day, in an open, accessible inclusive and splendid, scenic environment that is at the two harbours of the Heritage Waterfront Park."
