The pair of eight-year-old Skate Oakville members skated to preliminary dance bronze in their first-ever appearance at the regional meet. Other notable performers at the competition were Timuray Gokdemir (fourth, preliminary men's freeskate), Jesse Dalby (fifth, preliminary women's freeskate Flight 6), Julia Wang (fifth, juvenile under11 women's freeksate), Alexander Moses (fourth, prejuvenile men's freeskate), Kaitlyn Chubb and Alexander Moses (fourth, pre-juvenile dance) and Angel Green and Malcolm Kowan (fourth, juvenile dance). Wang, the Chubb/Moses team and the Green/ Kowan team all qualified to be members of the 201213 Skate Canada Central Ontario Future Champions development team. Moses also qualified for the Trillium STARSkate Ontario provincial championships, which will be held March 22-24 in Fort Erie. Also last weekend, Skate Oakville's Oakville Edge senior team claimed a bronze medal at the national synchronized skating championships in Calgary. The Edge's novice team also competed at nationals, finishing ninth. The nationals marked the end of the competitive season for both the Edge senior and novice squads, but other Edge teams will be competing this weekend at a meet in Innisfil. Tryouts for the 2013-14 Edge teams will take place in the upcoming months. For more information, visit the team's website at www.oakvilleedge.org. players receive awards SPORTSBRIEFS Loyola grad on all-rookie team Oakville's Andrea Ziesmann was recently named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) women's hockey all-rookie team. The Loyola grad had three goals and 11 assists in 25 games with the Plattsburgh State Cardinals. Two of her three goals were game winners. Ziesmann's 14 points shared the team lead among freshmen with former Oakville Hornets teammate Caitlin Gilligan. Oakville's Mia Favretto is also a member of the Plattsburgh team, which is undefeated this season with a record of 23-0-2, including 15-0-1 in conference play to finish atop the ECAC West standings. Oakville's Luke Moodie was named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's hockey all-con- ference first team. The former Oakville Blade led the conference in scoring with 20 goals and was second to Oswego State Lakers teammate Paul Rodrigues in scoring with 39 points. The senior forward also led the Lakers in power-play goals (nine) and game-winning goals (five). Moodie has racked up 61 goals and 127 points in 108 career games with Oswego State. Moodie had a goal as Oswego State (22-4-0) advanced to the SUNYAC championships game with a 5-2 victory over Buffalo State Saturday. Oakville's Chris Muise scored twice in the win. Senior defenceman Taylor Farris and junior forward Kyle Badham are also members of Oswego State, which will play Plattsburgh in the championship game for the third time in four years.
