There will be nearly 100 voices on stage at the Tempus Choral Society's spring concert on Saturday (May 4). The concert, titled It's De-Lovely, will be at ClearView Christian Reformed Church, 2300 Sheridan Garden Dr. "Again this year we welcome spring with an eclectic program of happy music," said Tempus choir director Brian Turnbull, in a news release. "I'm delighted the choir is up to almost 100 voices. The choir will be singing at Lincoln Center in New York in December a wonderful opportunity for us." The concert will include music such as Cole Porter's masterpiece It's De-Lovely, as well as such music as Blame It On the Bossa Nova, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, Caribbean Blue, Java Jazz, The Pink Panther, Song for the Mira, Sweet Georgia Brown, Whatever Lola Wants, You Make Me Feel So Young, and Down by the Riverside. Tempus sings for spring Opera star sings for hometown crowd HOME IMPROVEMENTS Nationally celebrated mezzo soprano and Oakville resident Norine Burgess will be the featured performer at St. Jude's season finale concert of its Celebration of the Arts series Saturday (May 4). Burgess will be accompanied by Toronto pianist, conductor and director Christopher Mokrzewski. The local singer has appeared in operas, concerts and recitals in venues across Canada and with major opera companies and orchestras in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Germany and Australia. She has worked with such conductors as Bramwell Tovey, Sir Charles MacKerras, Charles Dutoit and Helmuth Rilling. A highlight of her career includes a performance of Joseph Haydn's Mass in B flat Major (Harmoniemesse) at the Salzburg Festival. Mokrzewski has a successful career in music as well. He has participated as a coach and répétiteur for the Canadian Opera Company's production of Rigoletto, Opera Atelier's La clemenza di Tito, Saskatoon Opera's Don Pasquale, and has been the music director for Against the Grain Theatre's productions of Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw and Kurt Weill's The Seven Deadly Sins. The Oakville concert will include music by composers Robert Schumann, Gustav Mahler, Reynaldo Hahn and Howard Blake.
