OAK fourth at provincials Oakville Aquatic Club (OAK) swimmer Matthew Mac won four gold medals and one silver at the provincial age group championships last weekend in Nepean, helping the club finish fourth overall. Lauren LaLumiere and Luka Tomic also won gold medals, with each adding a silver and a bronze. Anaka Will-Dryden earned a pair of silver, Emily Ramier claimed silver and bronze, and Maggie Copeland collected a bronze. Other event finalists from OAK included Ali Baki, Hannah Burgess, Alexandra FabugaisInaba, Collyn Gagne, Adrian Haasler, Anthony Ivakhnenko, Christina Ji, Julia Matuszczak, Bryanna Samuels, Olivia Sinclair and Olivia Strevett. Relay medals were earned by 13-14 boys' competitors Tyler Altenhof, Baki, Ivakhnenko, Haasler and Tomic. championships last month. At the Central Region meet in Etobicoke, Tyler Altenhof (three gold, two silver, one bronze) and Anthony Ivakhnenko (four gold) led the way. Tamara Slavkovska, Emilie Gagne and Wezley Wright each won two golds, while Pamir Gurler, Thomas Ritchie and Morgane Shuster all added one. Also winning multiple medals were Gabrielle Harris, Maisey Kent, Callum MacPherson, Emma Miron, Lara Olivier, Dejan Pajovic, Sarah Peros, Moira Sumner and Lauren Van Laare. Other medallists were Khaled Askar, Andrew Dai, Matthew Daxner, Amileigh Du Toit, Bennett Ho, Sebastian Krewdel, Hal Malcolm, Ryan Marois, Dan Rona, Bryanna Samuels, Olivia Mae Sinclair, Blaze Slavkovski and Kristen Smith. Silver medals in relay were earned by Dejan Pajovic, Ryan Marois, Khaled Askar, Thomas Ritchie, Julius Raymond, Alexander Smith, Anthony Ivakhnenko, Tyler Altenhof, Blaze Slavkovski and Louis Sharland. OAK won the large team division at the Winter Team meet, which was also held in Etobicoke. Multiple-event winners included Isabel Clarke, Omar Elfarseisy, Zachary Ferguson, Olivia Haynes, Jacob Judson, Victoria Taylor and Mathieu-T Vu Noreau. Leah Creelman, Rodrigo Hontoria Arroyo, Eric Hopkins, Alexander Miller, Kate O'Hare, Kaya Peros, Carter Ward and Edward Zhang each won two medals or more. Maegan Mustafa added a gold. Others to earn medals were Olivia Buttenham, Grace Danner, Ahmed Elmarsafawi, Katie Forrester, Matthew Grouix, Danielle Haslip, Fiona Hood, Ibrahim Mohammad, Kerrick Pereira, Carly Singh, Vanessa Telzer and Paulina Zavaros. In Montreal, OAK was sixth in team competition at the Eastern Canadian meet. Bryce Kwiecien-Delaney won two silver and a bronze; Annika Grewal earned a silver and a bronze; Lauren Lalumiere claimed three bronze; Connor Wilk won a silver; and Matthew Mac and Mitchell Gour each took home a bronze. OAK racked up a total of 885 points in overall competition to finish ahead of second-place Toronto Swim Club (779) and third-place North York Aquatic Club (379). OAK also won team awards in backstroke, freestyle and individual medley. Individually, Bora Tlabar won six gold medals and set four club records. Multiple golds were also earned by William Anderchek, Collyn Gagne and Ian Chambers (three each), Dion Renaud and Trevor Smith (two each). Kiera Brough, Derek Calvert, Alyssa Forbes, Nina Tomic and Rosie Zavaros also finished atop the podium in an event. Other medallists at the meet included Michael Antifaoff, Adrian Haasler, Paige Lavergne, Sunny Liu, Camden Malowany, Hailey Norris, Lara Olivier, Lauren Van Laare and Caroline Zhang. Other major meets OAK swimmers also competed in the Central Region, Eastern Canadian and Winter Team Overcoming a number of injuries, the Oakville Thunder under-16 elite team went undefeated to win the championship at the recent U16 McGregor Cup in Burlington. Members of the team are Amanda Prestidge, Natti Dunn, Val Zapata, Patricia Gombas, Taylor Incze, Nicole Perri, Jessica Arnds, Kaitlyn Brooks, Victoria Nash and Riley Miller. The Thunder's U15 blue team won bronze at the same tournament. | photo submitted Aquinas student to play soccer at Bowling Green St. Thomas Aquinas student Michelle Denley recently accepted a soccer scholarship from NCAA Division 1 school Bowling Green State University. A goalkeeper, Denley is currently a member of Soccer Canada's national training program. She aspires to participate in the CONCACAF Under-20 World Cup and Alyssa Danley some day represent Canada at the Olympics. In addition to playing soccer for Aquinas, Denley has also helped the Raiders win Halton and Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference titles in both field hockey and volleyball. The Brock University wrestler defeated the University of Alberta's Jason Wass by decision to earn a national bronze medal for the second year in a row. Falcioni opened the tournament by exacting a little payback, pinning McMaster's Ahmed Shamiya, who beat him in the semifinals of the 57-kilogram division at Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championships two weeks earlier in what many considered the best bout of the provincial meet. After being pinned himself by Saskatchewan's Dylan Bray, the Holy Trinity grad came back to secure second place in his pool by pinning Memorial's Tyson Drake. Falcioni also earned a bronze medal at the OUA championships. He bounced back from the semifinal loss to beat Rishav Ranjit 7-0, 6-0 in the bronze-medal match. Former Abbey Park student an OUA all-star Oakville's Kayla Goodhoofd was named to the Ontario University Athletics West Division women's basketball all-star team. The third-year forward was named to the OUA second team after leading the Guelph Gryphons in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game and ranked third in the OUA with 3.0 steals per game. The Abbey Park grad also averaged 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Guelph finished sixth in the OUA with a record of 7-14.
