Leone gathered reporters Monday in the Tory caucus room to pose for the cameras in front of the 56,000 pages of internal documents so far released into the cancellation of the Mississauga and Oakville facilities. While the scandal expedited then premier Dalton McGuinty's resignation announcement last Oct. 15 and ended the political career of former energy minister Chris Bentley, the Cambridge MPP said that's not good enough. "We're looking for the person who did it to admit it. We're looking for an apology that still hasn't come forward," said Leone. Premier Kathleen Wynne has admitted that scrapping the Mississauga plant during the Oct. 6, 2011 election campaign was a "politi- cal decision." Indeed, it helped save four Liberal seats in Etobicoke and Mississauga. Tories say a similar move a year earlier spared the Oakville seat of MPP Kevin Flynn because residents opposed a gas-fired power plant proposed for the Ford-owned lands of 1500 Royal Windsor Dr. The Liberals claim the tab for both plants is $230 million, but Leone said it could climb to $1.3 billion. While Leone conceded a Tory government would also have cancelled the Mississauga plant -- and therefore have incurred the same financial penalties -- he stressed the Liberals should be blamed for approving it in the first place. "The reality is we wouldn't have built it... the Liberals made the decision," he said. A legislative committee probing the cancellations continued yesterday (Wednesday). Wynne Liberals have been trying to fool the public and media into believing that the $1 billion contract dispute for the Oakville gas plant was settled for $40 million. "After hearing testimony today (Wednesday) that the cost of the Oakville gas plant cancellation will cost Ontarians at least $638 million, the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy (Liberal MPP Bob Delaney) refused to stand by the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals' cost of $40 million," he said. Fedeli made the comments pointing to testimony from energy expert and Justice Committee witness Bruce Sharp who, according to Fedeli, testified he would welcome open, transparent and "spin-free" information and that the $40-million number, proposed by the government, is quite low. "Sharp's testimony and Delaney's comments make it clear: the government has been misleading Ontarians about the billions of dollars wasted to save five Liberal seats," said Fedeli. Police said at around 1:45 a.m., two suspects arrived at the store and smashed the front glass door so they could enter. Once inside the suspects grabbed a number of phones and then fled the scene. The suspects wore hooded sweatshirts to conceal their faces. No other suspect descriptions are available.
