Bacchus was a family man, entrepreneur and Rotarian by Dominik Kurek Oakville Beaver Staff 7 | Thursday, March 21, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com The Oakville community has lost a longtime businessman and well-known community figure in Allym (Al) Wordsworth Bacchus. Bacchus was 67 when he died at Ian Anderson House early Sunday. "People always knew him. People would go up to him all the time. He could be walking through the mall or in a store and he would have no idea who they were, but they would know him because his face was always in the paper," said his close personal friend and business partner, Simon Rowe. Bacchus had owned Super 7 Autos in Oakville for approximately 25 years before retiring in 2004. Rowe, who was working at the shop, bought the business from Bacchus. "He mentored me for years and we spent all kinds of personal time together," Rowe said. "He was one of those guys who would take you under his wing and really show you and take the time to be with you and who was really interested in helping you." Bacchus was born in Trinidad and Tobago of Guyanese descent. His family moved back to Georgetown, Guyana with him. He then attended middle school and high school in London, England. Bacchus had a passion for cars and mechanical engineering and design. He trained and apprenticed in mechanics. community and offered his help or sponsorships for community and business events. He was also a family man. "He was definitely the kind of man who would make sure his family was taken care of. There was nothing that stood in the way of that," Rowe said. After retiring in 2004, Bacchus enjoyed golf, travel and Panamanian sunshine. He loved to spend time in his carpentry workshop and his machine shop where he custom fabricated and designed parts. Bacchus loved his electronic and computer workshop where he spent time creating novel designs. Bacchus is survived by his mother Eileen Bacchus, his brother Lloyd Bacchus, his children Jason Bacchus, Tara (Saunders) Bacchus, Robin (Roadnight) Bacchus, Armand Bacchus, Chantal Bacchus, his grandchildren Ashleigh Saunders, Kayleigh Gray and his wife Rianna Wallace. A funeral service is planned for today (Thursday) at Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel and Reception Centre, 3164 Ninth Line. The visitation is 5:30-6:30 p.m., memorial from 6:30-7 p.m. and reception from 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ian Anderson House in Oakville. Allym Bacchus In his late 20s, Bacchus moved to Canada and eventually opened his business. "His abilities? He was an engineer, he was so intelligent," Rowe said. "If there was any roadblock, he knew a way to go around it. If he didn't, he found it. If you needed a bottomline answer, he either had it or would get it. Even up until his death on the weekend, if I had any challenges here at the garage, I would call him and he would talk me through things or help me out with things.
