Oakville's Intrada Brass will be showcasing its depth and versatility at its upcoming concert on Sunday (March 24). The concert, titled BOLD & Brassy will be at The Salvation Army Community Church. Intrada music director Kevin Norbury says he has selected music that will showcase the brilliance and versatility of a brass band. "This concert gave us the opportunity to celebrate all things bold and brassy," he said in a news release. The concert will feature such music as the Hymn for Diana, Nikolai RimskyKorsakov's Dance of the Tumblers, Gioachino Rossini's Largo al Factotum, Colas Breugnon by Russian composer Dmitri Kabalevsky and the Little Suite for Brass by Malcolm Arnold. The brass band will also perform two pieces composed by Norbury. Cornet Robert Venables will be a featured soloist at Intrada Brass gets bold and brassy Oakville Galleries exhibit searches for women's utopia Oakville Galleries is opening a spring exhibit at its two locations on Sunday (March 24). The exhibit, titled After My Own Heart, features the works of a group of artists who have imagined a utopia for women, where they are free to live without the conventions of contemporary life. The works in the exhibit span nearly 40 years, from the old to the current. The Galleries say the ideas and iconographies of 1970s feminism resonates throughout the exhibit. The works in the show include three-dimensional sculptures of sasquatch, to graphic abstract paintings, to experimental films and more. Together, the show presents a vibrant feminist past and a promising feminist future, the gallery says. The artists in the show are Barbara Hammer; Sharon Hayes, Kate Millett & Women's Liberation Cinema; Onya Hogan-Finlay; Allyson Mitchell; Carrie Moyer; Ulrike Müller & Herstory Inventory; L.J. Roberts; and Elisabeth Subrin. The opening reception will begin at the galleries' Centennial Square location, 120 Navy St., from 2:30-3:30 p.m., and continue at its Gairloch Gardens location, 1306 Lakeshore Rd. E., from 3:30-5 p.m. After My Own Heart is the second show in an ongoing series of exhibitions at the Galleries that address key themes in contemporary feminist art practices. The exhibit ends on May 18. For more information and gallery hours, visit www.oakvillegalleries. com.
