- Dr. Hardy was the son of George and Emily (Gilby) Hardy of Sheridan, Trafalgar Township. As a young man, he was a teacher, then he opened his practice as a dentist on Carlton Street, in Toronto opposite Maple Leaf Gardens. When he retired, he owned a greenhouse and nursery on the Lakeshore Road at Clarkson (now part of Mississauga) Ontario. Dr. Hardy was a man with quite a zest for life. He never married as his fiancee had died in an plague epidemic. He travelled to England in 1900 which is probably when he bought this "British Made" hat.

- Hat interior inscription on leather interior band: British Manufacture. Inscription on silk of hat: Finest Finish - British Make - London.
A band of newspaper has been folded just inside and above the leather interior band to fit the hat tighter to Dr. Hardy's head. I didn't want to damage this newspaper fitting so did not take it out and unfold it, but it is a Toronto newspaper. - Date of Publication
