- This record contains 5 photographs of items used or made by the women of the Hardy family of Sheridan, Trafalgar Township in the late 1800s, early 1900s. The face veil was worn by Isabella Jane (Stevenson) Hardy, 1890-1900 era.
The collar is purchased, machine-made lace but the edges were likely trimmed and hemmed by the wearer.
The little doilies and the crochet cross are patterns that are still made and used today. The cross book mark is often given to a child with the gift of a new bible or hymn book. Although fewer people crochet their placemats these days, the patterns seen in this placemat are definitely often used in modern day crochet work of all kinds.
The delicate apron is all handmade. It may seem like a child's apron to modern eyes but it was indeed made to fit an adult woman in the Hardy family. - Subject(s)
