Through hands-on training, demonstrations, simulations, presentations and assigned tasks, participants learn to identify their own leadership skills and determine ways to use resources effectively. The Oakville Rotary Clubs are just three of many Rotary Clubs that sponsor individual participants. Each Rotary Club covers the cost of the program, including meals, activities and on-going communication and alumni activities for the youth. Clubs are also responsible for transportation arrangements to and from the RYLA training centre located in Orangeville, Ontario. After the program, Clubs invite the participants to a meeting to share their experience. This is a very successful program that has run for many years in our local Rotary District 7080. Youth aged 18-24 interested in the program complete and submit an application form to a local Rotary Club in District 7080, along with a letter detailing why you want to attend. Forms and information are available at www.rotary7080.org Contacts for Oakville clubs are listed below. Interact Fundraiser 2012 RYLA Attendees RYLA Alumni ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity specializing in emergency shelter provision. When a disaster, such as a flood, earthquake, hurricane or tsunami strikes, many survivors lose their homes, their possessions and their hope. In 1999, UK Rotarian and former Royal Navy search and rescue diver Tom Henderson spotted a gap in aid provision after natural disasters. While food and medicine were immediately delivered, proper shelter for individual families was often overlooked. ShelterBox was launched to fill that void. Since then, ShelterBox has provided shelter, warmth and dignity to over a million people on every continent of the world. Humanitarian aid is delivered in iconic green ShelterBoxes. A typical ShelterBox supplies an extended family with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless.
