ALDERSHOT SCOUTS & CUBS Gleanings from Hamilton Spectator November 4th, 1945 The November meeting of the newly formed Boy Scout troop, No. 2, of Aldershot, met on Thursday evening at Maplehurst School with an attendance of 22 scouts, under the direction of Scoutmaster Robert Todd, and 12 cubs, under Cub-master James Bennett. Following the scout meeting Robert Todd acted as chairman at a meeting of the parents of the scouts. C. W. Fleming, district representative of the Boy Scout Association, addressed the meeting. A group committee was formed, with the following members: Dr. W. J. Deadman, Howard Gallagher, William A. Fellowes and Richard Bullock. Scout Auxiliary (no date) The Aldershot Scout Ladies' Auxiliary met last night at the home of Mrs. W. E. Bainbridge, with the president, Mrs. W. G. Gayfer, in the chair. Plans were discussed for the Aldershot-Dundas Cub rally June 2 at Oaklands Park. A picnic will be held at La Salle [LaSalle] Park on June 18 for Cubs and Scouts and their mothers, with Mrs. W. A. Whelan, convener of the program. The Cub leaders, Lucy Gallagher and Florence De Graaf, reported that both packs were now full. Boys who wished to join the packs should telephone the leaders so that their names may be put on a waiting list. The need is urgent for new leaders and it was agreed to appeal for assistance through the churches and the Community Council. Mrs. Robert Todd was named convener of a badge committee and Mrs. Horace Biddle was appointed head of a group to buy out-grown Cub and Scout uniforms for resale. Miss Gallagher announced a hike for Cubs on Thursday at 10 o'clock and a week-end camp in late July or early August, at which the assistance of two mothers is requested. Refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Sydney Chumley and Mrs. I. Foster. Auxiliary Group Presents Scout Pins to Mothers_ Aldershot, April 22 (no year) Mrs. W. A. Whelan was hostess to the 2nd Aldershot Scout Ladies' Auxiliary last evening. Mrs. W. G. Gayfer presided and 18 members were present. Scout mother pins were given to members of the auxiliary. Cubmaster Lucy Gallagher announced that it would be necessary for all cubs and scouts to have full uniforms before the Good Deed parade on May 17. Mrs. H. Poole has charge of the secondhand uniforms and will be glad to buy or sell any articles. The poster contest deadline has been extended until Saturday, April 26 when all entries must be handed in to Miss L. Gallagher. Final plans were made for the spring tea and bake sale in Rosary Hall on Saturday, May 4, from 2 until 5 pm. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. G. Spinks.
