Guiding in Aldershot The 1st Guide Company of Aldershot was formed in February of 1940 with Miss Helen Gallagher as Captain and Miss Sylvia Harding as Lieutenant. At the same time the 1st Aldershot Brownie Pack came into being with Miss Dorothy Attig as Brown Owl and Miss Ora Sinclair as Tawny Owl. In May 1940 Miss Helen Eydt was appointed Company Leader, Mrs. Lionel Milne, Area Commissioner enrolled twenty seven Guides in the new Company on June 27th, 1940. The first Cookie Sale was held in this month also. At this time Aldershot was part of a large district which included Dundas, Waterdown and Aldershot. In April 1943 Dundas was made a separate district leaving Aldershot and Waterdown as one district under Mrs. W. J. Deadman, District Commissioner. Mrs. Deadman remained as District Commissioner until September 1946 when she was appointed Division Commissioner of Wentworth Division. Mrs. R. Todd was appointed District Commissioner of Aldershot and Waterdown and was followed in 1947 by Mrs. G. Horning of Waterdown. In September 1948 it was decided to divide the district, Mrs. Horning remaining as District Commissioner of Waterdown and Mrs. E. E. Bullock being appointed as District Commissioner of Aldershot. Mrs Bullock retired in 1950 and was followed by Mrs. Jean McMillan. 2nd Aldershot Guides and 2nd Aldershot Brownies were formed in 1943. Eydt Lieutenant Miss Kellar, Brown Owl, Miss Storey, Tawny Owl Miss Gallagher, Capt. Mrs. Jackson, Lieut. Miss Scheer, Miss Green Guiding has steadily progressed in Aldershot growing from Guide Company with 27 Guides and one Brownie Pack with 12 Brownies, to two Guide Companies with 58 Guides and three Brownie Packs with 83 Brownies. Stevenson Clipping: Seventeen Guides attended the weekly meeting of the 2nd Aidershot Guide company held at Maplehurst School. Congratulations were extended to company leader, Marion Stevenson on winning the handiwoman and world knowledge badges, also to Dorothy Job and Dorothy Todd who were awarded second class badges. Evon Barnstaple passed second class knott tests. Plans for the birthday party to be held at Waterdown February 20 were discussed.
