In keeping with their motto of assisting others, do a good deed, and to create happiness in home, the 2nd Aldershot Girl Guide patrol have completed their Tribute in commemoration to Baden Powell, and they have adopted a patrol of six new Guides from the Mountain Sanatorium into their company. The new Guides consist of one Indian girl, four Eskimos and one girl from Baffin Land. The Guides worked very hard to earn the money for their project. By baby-sitting, snow shovelling, selling papers, house cleaning, running errands and many other odd jobs they managed to raise funds. All the money earned was pooled into a fund to purchase uniforms and equipment for the girls at the Sanatorium. The girls were equipped from head to toe from beret to In addition to outfitting the new adopted Girl Guides, the 2nd Aldershot Guides equipped the Sanatorium group with many other pieces of equipment required to help the girls to pass the many tests to win their proficiency awards. The 2nd Aldershot Guides were not permitted to visit the hospital, and were represented by their Captain, Mrs. Eva Shillingford of Cedar Ave., and Lt. Norma Jerwak. Captain Shillingford writes "When we outfitted the girls, although only one could speak English, the smiles and cries of delight made the occasion one to be remembered. The Eskimo girls sang campfire songs, and indeed the language barrier made no difference to the fun we had. When it was time to go home, with the happy faces saying good-bye, no words were needed, I only wish that all the Guides of 2nd Aldershot who worked so hard could have been there. We wish to congratulate the girls of 2nd Aldershot Patrol, who made this possible: Guides Betty Jean Easson, Carol Ann Hennissy, Ruth Roberts, Eleanor Cuttis, Shirley Taylor, Gail Ponting.
