HISTORY OF EAST PLAINS CHURCH Time line 120 inches long and each inch represents one year total age of the church. 1843 Frame Methodist Church 26' x 36' built on present site. Sunday School room 22' x 24' attached - two class rooms. 1858 - Mr. Arron Emery organized Sunday School, was Supt. [Superintendent] for 26 years. Six Sunday School classes held only during summer. Mrs. A. Emery advocated Sunday School all year. Two or three years this was done. 1892 - larger brick church built - membership 77. The Sunday School enrolled 98. Sunday School classrooms upstairs - estimated cost $4500. The following persons laid corner stones now on a stone tablet in the east entrance of the church. H. A. Massey, J. McDonald, Mrs. J. I. Flatt, Mrs. J. Emory, Miss Eva Freeman, Mrs. L. Davis 1907 - -fire completely destroyed church - saved 1 pulpit, hand carved by W. E. Peart 2 chairs 3 Sunday School piano 4 - china communion cup, now 122 years old used by the original congregation at the communion rail The communion cup, chairs and pulpit are on display in the chapel. The new church built on the same foundation, same year, cost $9,967. Sunday School classrooms in the basement - New Church is our Chapel. 1922 - Appleby church separated. Plains Pastoral Charge carried on. 1954 - East and West Plains Churches separated. 1956 - New Sanctuary Fellowship Hall, old church becomes chapel.
