WEST PLAINS UNITED CHURCH MARKS ANNIVERSARY Nov. 1st. 1951 West Plains United Church celebrated its anniversary with special preachers, the Rev. Aubrey Jones and the Rev. John Witzel of Melrose and Mount Hamilton Churches. The music for the day was in the capable hands of Mrs. G. A. Reany. Following the evening service a social get-together was held in the church parlors and the following contributed to the programs Messrs. A. Fleck, and G. Robinson, of Toronto, Duets; Mrs. John Witzel, solos; William Coleman, violin selections. The church treasurer, Alec Gibson announced that the thank offering objective had been nearly reached while Frank Guenther, chairman of the stewards, thanked all who contributed to the success of the anniversary. Refreshments were served by the social committee of the W. A., Mrs. E. Winsor was convenor. CHURCH SOCIETIES East and West Plains Women's Missionary Society was organized by Mrs. Hockey in 1904 in November. Mrs. Harry Blessenger was president. The W. A. [Women's Auxiliary] of West Plains United Church was organized in 1904 by Mrs. John Lemon by inviting the church ladies to her home and calling it the W. A. The group consisted of about eighteen members. Clipping: At the Sunday morning service of West Plains United Church the Rev. F. A. Chester dedicated a plain wooden cross which was presented to the Church by the Women's Auxiliary. The cross is the workmanship of the United Church Minister, Rev. Eddis Fairbairn of St. Mary's, Ontario, and is made of beautiful cherrywood. The cross was presented by the President of the W. A., Mrs. Ivan Mackie and the immediate past president, Mrs. W. L.
