ST. MATTHEW'S ANGLICAN CHURCH Jan. 1959 Burn one mortgage, plan Second for Larger Church.... The gentle touch of a lighted taper to the corner of the official expired mortgage, was the highlight of the Annual Vestry Meeting of St. Matthew's Anglican Church on Monday night. It was fitting that Mrs. Agnes Read, one of the oldest members of St. Matthew's should put the finishing flame to the six-year-old mortgage of $21,000. During the same meeting, Mr. T. A. Irwin, Chairman of Church Extension, presented for future consideration, plans for the building of a larger church, on the site of the existing one. It was decided that these plans would come forward for discussion at a later date, pending the sale of the King's Road property. Turning to the review of 1958, it was reported that the church's financial condition was good, and it was hoped this would continue depending on the fullest support of all members.
