Clippings of: Spring Flowers Fill Parish Hall At St. Matthew's Tea, Bake Sale Mrs. T. Klodt and Mrs. A. Read, two charter members who are still active in St. Matthew's Women's Auxiliary, now in its 57th year, were among those attending the spring tea and sale of baking May 10 at the Parish Hall. Mrs. Gordon Gallagher, auxiliary president, and Mrs. Sam Gilliland, welcomed guests in a setting of spring flowers arranged by Mrs. Jack Reed and Miss Edith Sinclair. Mrs. Fred Bell convened the tea assisted by Mrs. J. Jervis, Mrs. W. Brimmacombe, Mrs. Gordon Wilson, Mrs. Fred Knight, Mrs. W. G. Wrathall, Mrs. Jack Gavin, Mrs. Henry Mann, Mrs. W. Rodel and Mrs. W. Whiteside. Those in charge ot the bake table were Mrs. A. Warford, Mrs. W. Charlesworth, Mrs. J. C. Quigley, Mrs. F. Chapman. Mrs. R. S. Cutler and Mrs. J. Mann looked after the Dorcas table where a large bale of clothing prepared by members and destined for St. Phillips Church at Fort George was on display. Sale of W.A. pins was done by Mrs. W. Collins. Mrs. Clarence Wright. was in charge of a display of craft work by the Girls' Auxiliary and Mrs. H. D. Marshall of a similar craft display by the Junior Auxiliary. Closing meeting of the season will be the United Thank offering, May 24. It will start with a service in the church conducted by Rev. Clarence Wright. Send Greeting A letter was received from Rev. Alex Higginson, of Waterdown, rector of St. Matthew's 50 years ago. Greetings and congratulations were conveyed to the auxiliary by visitors from St. Luke's Anglican Church, Burlington, St. Andrew's Church, Hamilton Beach, Waterdown and Stoney Creek churches. Mrs. Gallagher introduced the following members of the diocesan board: Mrs. A. W. Wright and Mrs. D. M. Reid, vice-presidents: E.C.D, secretary, Mrs. C H. Bowstead; Dorcas secretary. Mrs. J. R. Dunbar: Dominion Dorcas secretary. Mrs. H. O. McAndrew: past president, Mrs. G. H. Playle. Mrs. H. Read cut the large decorated birthday cake and a delightful tea was served by the members under the convenership of Mrs. W. Moore. The flower decorations were arranged by Mrs. J. Quigley. A display of work done by the Girls' Auxiliary and the Junior Auxiliary was made, and the bale for the Dorcas room was also shown. The last meeting of the W.A. for the season will be the united thank-offering meeting on May 26 at 2.15 p.m. Feb 23, 1961 St. Matthew's WA Has Display of Knitting St. Matthew's Women's Auxiliary met in the Sunday School room. Mrs. G. Gallagher presided and opened the meeting with a hymn and prayers. Mrs. R. Warford read the Bible lesson, Mrs. J. Read read some Thoughts for Lent. Mrs. G. Gallagher thanked the members for their help in serving tea following the Confirmation Service. Mrs. D. Callum gave the treasurer's report. A donation will be sent to the church army and the mission to Lepers, and to the Little Helpers. Miss E. Sinclair reported all calendars sold. Mrs. R. Cutter reported on articles needed for the bale and had many lovely knitted things and babies jackets on display, for the Dorcas room. Mrs. J. Quigly reported on the Valentine party for the patients at the Ontario Hospital and visit to the Edgewood Hall for the blind. Mrs. Gallagher read the bulletin and closed the meeting with prayer, and thanked the hostesses Mrs. J. Reid and Miss E. Sinclair who were assisted by Mrs. W. Rodel and Mrs. W. Brimmacombe. Mrs. W. Wrathall was in charge of the Talent Table. A half hour was enjoyed when a Birthday cake for Mrs. A. Reid and Mrs. W. Charlesworth was served by Miss E. Sinclair.
