ST. MATTHEW'S Officers elected for the Women's Church Year, Dec. 1960 Miss Marjorie Seavey will be the new president of St. Matthew's Women's Church Year according to a report received from the nominating committee at the meeting November 22. Other officers will be Mrs. H. D. Gallagher, first vice-president; Mrs. Len Swire, second vice-president; Mrs. John Read, secretary; Mrs. Charles Penfold, treasurer; Mrs. C. S. Wright was named Honarary president. They will be installed at a candlelight service at the January meeting. Mrs. J. L. Alletson presented the report of the nominating committee. Mrs. H. D. Marshall read the Christmas story according to St. Mark. Mrs. Douglas Vary of St. Timothy's Church, Toronto, and her son Rev. Logan Vary, showed pictures of a pilgrimage to the Holy Land last July and gave a commentary. The pictures were shown in sequence to coincide with the story. "Pilgrims to the Holy Land are walking in the steps of the Master" Mrs. Vary said. She also brought greeting from St. Timothy's where the Church year was founded. Mrs. Leslie Laking thanked the speakers and presented Mrs. Vary with a gift. Mrs. John C. Patterson presided at the business session. Reports were read by Mrs. H. D. Gallagher, secretary, and Mrs. Len Swire, treasurer. Letters were read from the two children in Korea and Greece adopted by the Church year. Acknowledgement was received for money voted to the Sisters of St. John the Divine, Willowdale, St. Matthew's W. A. and St. Matthew's Altar Guild. Monthly reports of the different groups showed members planning to visit Halton Centennial Manor, Wentworth Lodge and Ontario Hospital. In each case gifts, entertainment and refreshments will be provided. The visits will take the place of the usual December meeting. Miss Theo Seavey and members of the November group convened the meeting and served refreshments and decorated the table and a small tree. ST. MATTHEW'S W. A. [Women's Auxiliary] Members of St. Matthew's W. A. decided to take up a special collection for the new St. Elizabeth Church in eastern Burlington at a meeting with Mrs. Gordon Gallagher presiding. Proceeds of the collection will go for gifts to the altar and sanctuary. Quilting bees will be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 1 p. m. in the Parish Hall. Highlights of the deanery meeting at Georgetown were given by Mrs. Gallagher, Mrs. J. C. Quigley and Mrs. Jack Read. Reports were also received from Mrs. Sam Gilliland, Treasurer, Mrs. Robert Cutler, Dorcas secretary, who asked for stocking fillers for Christmas. Mrs. Quigley said five members were planning to visit Ontario Hospital to entertain patients. Mrs. Gallagher announced the next diocesan board meeting would be at St. Peter's Church, Hamilton, November 2 at 8pm. Mrs. Jack Gavin was in charge of the Talent Table. Mrs. A. Warford read the Bible lesson and Mrs. Read the Harvest story for Thanksgiving. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Fred Bell, Mrs. Cutler, Mrs. W. Brimmacombe and Mrs. Rodel. CARD PARTY HELD BY MEN'S CLUB. May 17, 1962. Thirty-six players attended the regular evening of euchre sponsored by St. Matthew's Men's Club. Prizes were won by Mrs. B. Linley, Mrs. A. Pegg, Mrs, E. Davidson, Mrs. W. Charlesworth, Mrs. Jack Read and B. Lindley. Hostesses for the evening were, Mrs. J. Quigley, Mrs. W. Whiteside, Mrs. R. S. Cutler and Mrs. F. Benson.
