May, 1961 Honor Priest for Serving 25 years in the Diocese The Rev. Blake Ryan, parish priest and former principal of Cathedral Boys' High School, will be honored Sunday for a quarter-century's service in the diocese of Hamilton. Friends and parishioners will hold a dinner for Father Ryan at the Brant Inn. After his ordination May 31, 1936, by the late Bishop John McNally, the Hamilton-born cleric served as a parish priest in Guelph and Hamilton. In 1933, he joined the staff of Cathedral High School and was principal in 1953 when he left to become pastor of Holy Rosary Church in Aldershot. During his tenure a church and rectory have been built. There are 250 families in the parish, and the school, originally a three-room structure, has been expanded to nine rooms. Spring Social 1948 or 1949 Nearly 200 people were guests of Holy Rosary Church at their annual spring social at Fairfield School last night. The affair was convened by a committee of men, headed by Fred McKeever, with Don Cooper in charge of prizes and Vern Granby and Matt Williams looking after finances. Card prizes were won by Mesdames H. Keighley, Harry Murray and Don Kerns, and Messers Harry Murray, Mesdames B. Hayward, C. Smith, Don Cooper, Miss Marion Bovey, Harry Murray and Walter Toomer won door prizes. Walter Rankin was master of ceremonies for dancing with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Emery winning the dance prize. Lunch was served by Mrs. Vern Granby and her committee, Mesdames J. Ricci, F. McKeever, Will Miller, Steve Fitzsimmons, D. Cooper, H. Smiley, G. Mutch, J. Tilden and R. Reed, while Misses Catherine Burjaw, Mary Elizabeth Whelan, Margaret, Marilyn and Clare Smiley helped to serve.
