THE OLD - First Roman Catholic church in Aldershot was this burial chapel at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Masses were held here In this sylvan setting for four years prior to the opening of the new church. Honor Priest For Serving 25 Years Here The Rev. Blake Ryan, parish priest and former principal of Cathedral Boys' High School, will be honored Sunday for a quarter-century's service in the diocese of Hamilton. Friends and parishioners will hold a dinner for Father Ryan After his ordination May 31, 1936. by the late Bishop John McNally, the Hamilton - born cleric served as a parish priest in Guelph and Hamilton. IN 1938 he joined the staff of: Cathedral School and was principal in 1953 when he left to become pastor of Holy Rosary Church in Aldershot. During his tenure a church and a rectory have been built. There are 350 families in the parish, and the school, originally a three-room structure, has been expanded to nine rooms. AND THE NEW - Opened in 1951 Holy Rosary Church serves the religious needs for the 325 Catholic families In the Aldershot area. A hand carved statue of the Blessed Virgin embellishes the front of the new church.
