HOLY ROSARY Holy Rosary Priest Marks Anniversary Rev. Blake J. Ryan, of Holy Rosary Church will be honored by parishioners and friends this Sunday as he marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of his ordination into the Roman Catholic Church. Solemn high mass will be held at the church at noon on June 4 with the parishioners and he will be honored by parishioners and friends at a testimonial dinner at the Brant Inn Sunday at 7pm when a presentation will be made. He will celebrate solemn high mass with the pupils of Holy Rosary Separate School on Monday. Father Ryan was born and educated in Hamilton at Cathedral High School. He graduated from St. Michael's College, Toronto, in 1932 and entered St. Augustine's Seminary. He was ordained May 31, 1936 in his home parish of Christ the King in Hamilton. It was the late Bishop J. T. McNally who ordained him, and for a few months after he served at Christ the King until he was transferred to the Sacred Heart parish in Guelph as assistant priest. In 1938, he returned to Hamilton to teach at Cathedral High School and he served as assistant at St. Anne's and Cathedral of Christ the King. He was appointed vice-principal of the school in 1947 and principal 1949. Prom 1943 to 1953 he was business manager of the late Canadian Register, a Catholic weekly newspaper. He came to Holy Rosary in 1953. For the past three years he has been chairman of the local separate school board, of which he has been a member since amalgamation. Under his guidance, Cathedral High School expanded double. He still serves on the board of governors. He is an enthusiastic golfer and curler belonging to Burlington Golf and Curling Club. Aldershot. Upwards of 400 parishioners, friends and relatives honored the Rev. Blake J. Ryan, pastor of Holy Rosary Church, Aldershot, on the occasion of his 25th anniversary in the priesthood. A dinner was held on the lido deck of the Brant Inn Sunday. Father Ryan celebrated a Solemn High Mass at noon for the parish and his family. Msgr. J. C. Warren, pastor of St. John's R.C. Church in Burlington delivered the sermon. Dinner chairman was the Rev. V. W. Mc Mamara [McNamara?], assistant priest at Holy Rosary. Committee chairman was John Tereschyn. Mrs. J. F. Lawlor presented a gift from the Women 13 League of the parish; Vincent Howcroft, Holy Name Society vice-pres, a spiritual bouquet from the parish Sally Todd, parish CYO president, a framed portrait of the pastor. Hugh Smiley, representing senior members of the parish, presented the parish gifts, including a purse of money. The Most Rev. Joseph F. Ryan, Bishop of Hamilton congratulated the jubilarian and spoke briefly on the priesthood. A. T. (Tony) Chmiel narrated the program, "This is Your Life" with William Cockman collaborating in the script. Committee members handling arrangements for the dinner included Mr. and Mrs. William Ryan, Mr. and Mrs. Frederrick [Frederick] Catena, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Lawlor, Robert O'Briend [O'Brien?] and Donold [Donald?] Goodrow. Classmates participating on the program were Fred Dell, Chicago; Fred Anderson and Wilfred Ford, Hamilton. Members of the family on the program were Mrs. James Crusoe, Miss Alice Ryan, Thomas Ryan, all of Hamilton, and James Ryan of Preston.
