Photo by Bochsler Planning Committee New Holy Rosary Hall which adjoins the modern school is a large, spacious building which will be used for various parochial and community activities. It contains a splendid stage which is well-equipped and the auditorium will accommodate 300. Indoor athletic activities will be featured in the new hall. The planning of this structure was encharged to the Parish Hall Committee of which the pastor, Rev. B. W. Harrigan, is chairman. Mrs. Stanley Stott is secretary of this zealous committee. Other members of the committee include: Mrs. J. Pinnington, W. A. Whalen, W. T. A. Walton, Verne Granby, Donald Cooper and Alex. J. MacArthur. Harrigan, Pastor Known As Educational Leader Holy Rosary Parish, Aldershot, boasts a pastor who has had a notable priestly career and who has achieved renown as an educational leader in Ontario. Rev. B. W. Harrigan is a native Hamiltonian, receiving his elementary schooling in St. Brigid's and St. Patrick's Schools. This zealous pastor attended Old St. Mary's High School and St. Patrick's High School, from which he graduated in 1922. A graduate of St. Michael's College, Toronto, Father Harrigan undertook his theological training at St. Augustine's Seminary, Toronto. He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in St. Patrick's Church, Hamilton, by Most Rev. J. T. McNally on June 14, 1930. LEARNED EDUCATOR Following ordination, this learned educator attended a special one-year course at the Ontario College of Education, Toronto. He joined the staff of Cathedral High School, Hamilton, in 1931. Father Harrigan became principal of this institution in 1937 and held that position until 1946. During this teaching portion of his career, he served successively as assistant priest at the following Hamilton parishes: St. Mary's (6 years); St. Joseph's (1 year); Cathedral (6 years) and St. Patrick's (5 years). From 1944 to 1946, Father Harrigan assisted actively in the formation of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association accomplishments during his tenure of office. MANY OTHER DUTIES In addition to his present pastoral duties, Father Harrigan is a provincial director of the Federation of Catholic Parent-Teacher Associations. He acts as the diocesan director of the Hamilton and also in formulating the Teaching Profession Act. During this time, he was also president of the above Association for a two year period. Father Harrigan was elected to the presidency of the Ontario Teachers' Federation in 1946 and held this office for one year. This was a position which demanded full-time attention and he was given one year's leave of absence. The Ontario Teachers' Federation is composed of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association, the Association of French Catholic Teachers of Ontario, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation, the Federation of Women Teachers' Association of Ontario, and the Ontario Public School Men Teachers' Federation. Father Harrigan received wide acclaim from the teaching profession for his excellent organizational Dioocesan Council of the PTA. He is the Assistant Diocesan Director of the Hamilton Union of Holy Name Societies and is also Moderator of the Catholic Theatre of Hamilton. While principal of Cathedral High School, Father Harrigan also served as editor of the Catholic Voice and the Canadian Register. Father Harrigan was appointed the first pastor of Holy Rosary Parish, Aldershot, by Bishop Ryan when the parish was established in 1947.
