The congregation came into being on January 10, 1954, and Mr. Keith Wilcox, a student minister was associated with the congregation at that time, pior to which Melville Bailey ministered to the early gathering of Presbyterians. The first Session, formed to constitute the Congregation, consisted of Reverend Stanley Vance, Moderator, Minister of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, which later graciously consented to become our "Mother Church", and W. J. Moffat, who became the first Clerk of Session, and Norman McPhie, of MacNab St. Presbyterian Church, both of whom were Session Clerks in their own respective churches. When the Congregation was officially constituted, a Session, from their own membership was elected on March 11, 1954, being Samuel Adams, Alex K. Ramsay and Harry F. Robbins. Alex. K. Ramsay became Session Clerk on June 20, 1954. On December 1 of that same year three new elders were elected in the persons of George Head and Robert Morrison, and were inducted on March 20, 1955, and Arthur J. McLeish was ordained to the eldership at the same time. On March 6, 1956, Reverend William Black was welcomed in a service of recognition as the first ordained minister to serve the Constituted Congregation. On March 30, 1955, Harry F. Robbins was appointed Session Clerk, succeeding Alex K. Ramsay. On January 22, 1956, J. Frank Duff, F. W. Gillies and T. J. A. Fergusson were inducted as elders. Reverend William Black was assisted by Dr. H. B. Ketchen in this service. On April 27, 1956, J. Frank Duff was appointed as Session Clerk succeeding Harry F. Robbins, who became Roll Clerk. On October 28, 1956, the official breaking of ground ceremony took place, marking the occasion of the commencement of our New Church Building, and on April 7, 1957, the corner stone was laid. As this corner stone has become the symbol of the strength, the unity, and the purpose of the building and the foundation on which the building has been raised, so may our Church, our Congregation, our people, build their lives on Christ, the sure foundation, and may we go forward with, singleness of purpose, to keep Christ always foremost in our lives as individuals, and in the life of our people as a Congregation. Yours in His Service, J. Frank Duff, Session Clerk.
