Aldershot Presbyterian Church On May the 24th 1953 at 3 o'clock in the afternoon in Glenview Public School, Townsend Avenue, Aldershot, a service of worship was conducted for the local Presbyterians. Those present were: Rev. Stanley w. Vance of MacNab St. Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, Chairman of the Missionary Committee, the Rev, R. Forbes Thompson, Rev. T. Melville Bailey, Rev. W. K. Palmer, and the Messrs. W. J. Moffat, Chairman of the Church Extension Committee, and N. D. McPhie, Treasurer of the Committee for Purchasing lots for the Hamilton Presbytery. Mr. Betts, the organist of MacNab St. Church was present and played the piano. Mrs. Betts sang a solo. Church Members at this service were: Mr. and Mrs. Wray Livingston Mrs. J. C. Steele Mrs. Peter Raback Mrs. Ellis Hummell Mrs. Isabel Speers Mrs. Jas. [James] Stevenson Mr. N. R. Dalgleish Mary Lou Dalgleish - Church School Mr. A. J. McLeish Mr. Alex K. Ramsay Miss Mary Lankin Following the service it was unanimously decided to continue these services each Sunday at 2.30 pm. under the direction of Rev. Melville Bailey of Southgate Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, until such time as a student missionary was available to take charge. provision was made for a Junior Congregation so that the children could be taken care of during the service. Rev. Mr. Vance dismissed the meeting with prayer. Following the Service on May 31st, a sharp business meeting was held, with the Rev. T. Melville Bailey in the chair. Mrs. J. Stevenson moved, seconded by Mrs. P. Raback that Alex K. Ramsay be appointed Secretary-Treasurer, approval of all present the motion was cancelled. The Rev. Mr. Bailey closed the meeting with prayer. Mr. Bailey continued to conduct the services until the appointment of Mr. Keith Wilcox, the present Student Minister. At its December meeting the Presbytery of Hamilton officially welcomed the Aldershot group as a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. on January the 10th, 1954 this welcome was the occasion of a special service. It is the earnest prayer that God will richly bless the Aldershot Presbyterian Church. All look forward eagerly to the day when an appropriate edifice will give public and visible evidence to the world of a flourishing Presbyterian Congregation.
