Three hundred former students, parents and friends, filled the auditorium to overflowing as a tribute was paid to the guest of honor. Guest speaker was C. B. Routley, superintendent of professional education for the Ontario Department of Education. Mr. Routley, a former Wentworth County school inspector, brought greetings from the Hon. Dr. Dunlop, Minister of Education, saying "I want to tell Miss Leathorn that the department of education does appreciate her long and faithful service and the many fine things she has done for education." MASTER of ceremonies for the evening was Ted Lancefield who was a student of Miss Leathorn's in her first year, 1926, at Fairfield School. Miss Leathorn was escorted to the platform by Norman Dalgleish, a former principal, now principal at Glenview School, and Mahlon Shantz, the present principal of Fairfield School. Jack Akam, a former secretary-treasurer for the East Flamboro school board, praised Miss Leathorn's "integrity, outstanding capabilities and understanding of children." A string of pearls was presented on behalf of the former members of the East Flamboro board. Arthur Bell, a former principal of Fairfield School, presented a figurine on behalf of former teachers. A basket of roses was presented from the board of education by trustee George Williams and Christine Karca, a recent pupil of Miss Leathorn.
