Aldershot Lawn Bowling Club The original Aldershot Bowling Club was located on the property known as "Maplehurst", where H. Godwin lived. A brother lived next door. This property was on Plains Road East, opposite East Plains Church. The first recorded meeting was held at the home of H. J. Godwin on March 28th, 1919, and showed a membership of 23 members, as follows: H. J. Godwin, W. A. Emery, W. M. Godwin, Dr. MacGregor, G. E. Godwin, an Hon. member, Geo. D. Filman, Albert Scheer, Joseph Smiley, W. H. Scheer, E. G. Taylor, Jack Freeman, R. H. Emery, T. F. English, Frank Scheer, Wm. [William] Young, G. H. Sinclair, Rev. H. J. Leake,(Comp) Rev. H. L. Mercer, (Comp); Walter Horne, J. Wainwright, B. Keogh, E. B. Read and Mr. Wiggins. These were followed by : 1920-21 - A. Lancefield, 1922- J. Lemon 1923- T. C. Green, Mr. Leckie, J. Hall. 1925- L. Mem [Member]), Percey Filman, Chas. [Charles] Filman (Hon. M) who also looked after the green. Lewis Cole, (Hon. M). (1929) Officers were: W. A. Emery, Pres. A. Scheer, Vice Pres. G. E. Godwin, Treas. G. H. Sinclair, Secretary. Apparently the Club was in existence before 1919, as the minutes from which the above records were taken open with this quote "Motion that minutes of previous meeting be adopted". "Carried". We have not been able to locate the earlier minute book or records. Also "moved by W.Scheer, seconded by W. M. Goodwin, that the officers from last year be re-elected. "Carried". Fees were to be $5.00 per year, subject to call, and later on members were called upon three times in one year. Several pages of this book are missing so that accounts for the gap. Games were arranged with other clubs in Hamilton, and vicinity, and were apparently friendly games. Some clubs mentioned were: Burlington, Grimsby, Victorias and Fernleigh of Hamilton, also Strathcona. Skips were drawn and the rinks shown at that date were as follows: No. 1 Rink No. 2 Rink Skip - W. M. Godwin Skip - G. E. Godwin W. A. Emery Dr. MacGregor F. Scheer A. Scheer G. English J. Smiley W. Young E. G. Taylor E. B. Read W. Horne J. Wainwright B. Keogh Wiggins J. Freeman
