Benedetti at Burlington 4531. CORONATION BALL AT GLENVIEW PLEASING AFFAIR 9th, June 1951. Guests at the Aldershot Community Council's Coronation Ball arrived at Glenview School to find an unbelievable transformation. Nearly 300 man hours had been put in by the committee to transform the auditorium into a setting worthy of the occasion, and a cabaret had been set up outside in an area enclosed by flags, hung with red white and blue lights, streamers and Japanese lanterns. Arriving lady guests were presented with orchid corsages, and were later delighted with the large number of coronation cups and saucers which were given as prizes. Members of the Sovereign Chapter I.O.D.E. catered and many congratulations were received by William Saunders and his committee of John Horsley, master of ceremonies, Carl Wice and Jack Henderson for the outstanding success of the ball. COMMUNITY COUNCIL Name Conveners of Committees Aldershot, Mar. 14, 1952. The Community Council held an executive meeting at the home of the president, Robert Pinhay, with 17 members present. Committee chairmen for the various projects sponsored by the council were appointed as follows: Teens' Canteen, Don Greirson [Grierson?], May 24th, J. Gibson; newspaper, R. Pinhay; sports, P. Benedetti; Hallowe'en, L. J. Richardson; Father and son Fishing club, R. McCaw learn-to-swim; E. Davis; civic night, W. Corp; traffic and safety, W. Myers; playgrounds, Tom Price; family party, Mrs. N. Robertson. Plans were completed for the first event to be sponsored by the council this year in the form of an organizational meeting,of the Father and Son Fishing Club, to be held in Rosary Hall on April 3, at 8.15 pm. A demonstration will be given by the Ontario casting champion and films on fishing will be shown. All fishing enthusiasts will be welcomed. The next meeting of the council executive will be held April 9th. COMMUNITY COUNCIL OPENS DRIVE FOR NEW MEMBERS Aldershot, March 17, 1952. The Community Council began its membership drive here today, with plans to canvas every home in the Aldershot district during the next two weeks. Family membership cards for 1952 by the small army of canvassers, and the fee of one dollar per family will be by the council to back its many projects throughout the coming year. In its single year of operation the council has sponsored a learn-to-swim campaign, a traffic and safety program, teen's canteen, baseball and a community Hallowe'en party.
