Community Council Arrange First Annual of Aldershot Council Aldershot, Jan 21, 1952 - Details of the first annual meeting of the Aldershot Connrunity Council, to be held at Rosary Hall on February 4th, were discussed at the executive meeting at the home of the president, Robert Pinhay. A nominating committee was set up. It was explained that its duties would be to draw up a suggested table executive, moving each standing member up one position, and an advisory executive. Further nominations could be made from the floor at the annual meeting. Don Grierson reported for the Teen's Canteen that Marjorie Briggs and Bernice Dunham had been appointed delegates to the central teen's council which meets in Hamilton once a month. According to George Westbrook, chairman of the traffic and safety committee, the Department of Highways has secured the first of three traffic lights to be installed at Fairfield, Holy Rosary and Maplehurst Schools. Dr. G. D. Gaitskell, director of art for the provincial Department of Education, spoke to the members of the Fairfield Home and School Association on the subject of art in public schools today. He urged that the children be given the opportunity to express their individuality in their drawings, saying that the idea of setting an object before the class for the pupils to draw was out-moded. Dr. Gaitskell's lecture was effectively illustrated with coloured films. C. A. Brigden, head of the art department at Westdale Secondary School, acted as chairman for the evening. Norman Brimer read the Home and School creed and thanked the speaker. Refreshments were served by Mesdames J. Easterbrook, Jr., J. H. Best, V. Ricci, A. Ricci and R. Nealands. Council Sets Objective for Campaign Aldershot, Feb. 14, 1952 - As the Community Council launches plans for its second year, a minimum objective of $1,000 has been set. The council expects to raise this sum when it swings into its membership drive which begins March 17 and continues until March 30. The date was set last night at the home of the president, Robert Pinhay, taking into consideration the Red Cross drive which begins in this district March 3. By setting the council membership drive for the latter part of March, the council felt that no confusion with the Red Cross drive would result. Tom Price, chairman of the membership committee was absent and the president called for a special meeting to deal exclusively with the coming membership drive to be held Monday, February 18, at 8 p.m. at the home of Robert Pinhay.
