Cost of operating the pool was estimated by the recreation committee at about $4,100 net annually. Members of the finance committee felt the recreation budget would provide this sum, especially, said Councilor Fred Sinclair, if the proposed pool at Mountain Gardens is shelved this year. "They'll have to wake up in Mountain Gardens." said Councilor Ted Smith, "and get themselves a service club." Aldershot Kiwanis propose to raise the $20,000 cost of a 35 by 70-foot pool mostly by public subscription in the neighborhood to be served by the facility. The campaign will be opened almost immediately. The club hopes to have the proposed new pool in full operation by June of this year. It will be located in the southerly section of the park near dressing rooms being installed in connection with the new outdoor artificial ice rinks there. ALDERSHOT Kiwanis and Police worked close together in a bicycle safety programme for school children which started last week at Glenview School. Above: Dr. W. Gregus and Constable Neil MacKenzie are seen here attaching safety-strips to a student's bike. These strips - red at the rear of the bike and silver in front serve as projectors in the dark and are expected to promote safe driving at night. The third man in the picture is Mr. A. Bell, principal of the school. Below: Proud bike-owners patiently waiting in sun. May 8, 1957
