Sheridan president Jeff Zabudsky, however, says it's not a revolution; instead it's an evolution that has been happening over the last decade, as the school began offering bachelor's degrees and it legally became an Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. When Sheridan becomes a university after becoming accredited by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC), it will continue to function like a college, offering its current college programs, alongside more university programs, Zabudsky said. "We're not leaving people or programs behind," he said. "We're not leaving those students or the faculty teaching those programs behind. Ann Sargent, executive director of the Bronte BIA, which organizes Oakville's Canada Day celebrations each year, announced Wednesday Oakville MP Terence Young has succeeded in securing $36,000 in federal funding -- an additional $16,000 over last year -- to help pay for the event. "The federal government has supported us for a number of years now," said Sargent. "We think it's wonderful they have chosen to support our event again, especially with this increase." The federal government's contribution to Oakville's Canada Day celebration has been steadily growing over the years, from $15,000 offered up in 2009 to $25,000 in 2012. The Bronte BIA received a rude awakening last February when it became clear the Town of Oakville would not be contributing public funding to this year's Canada Day festivities. The Town has been a signi cant contributor to the celebrations in the past, with $30,000 in funding handed out in 2009, $30,000 in 2010, $25,000 see BIA on p.10 DAYS ONLY! 3 MAY 17, 18 & 19 DUNDAS & TRAFALGAR ROAD 400 Dundas St. East · 257-TIRE deluxe collapsible LONG 48-can cooler WEEKEND SAVE % SALE! 60 NOW 13 $ Zebco Horizon spin combo Includes 6' two-piece medium-action rod spinning reel with anti reverse and aluminum spool.
