Cancellation of gas plants still high on Hudak agenda by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff Ring stolen from jewelry store Halton police are looking for two men after an expensive ring was stolen from Raffi Jewellers at Oakville Place on Tuesday evening. At 8:15 p.m., two men walked into the jewelry store and asked to see a ring. When the clerk allowed one man to handle it, both men took off, police said. The ring is valued at more than $5,000. Police offered no description of the ring. The first suspect is described as a black male, 6-foot to 6-foot-1, in his mid to late 20s with a medium build. He was wearing a white baseball cap with a black rim and grey baseball jacket with black sleeves. Hudak held a telephone press conference describing his disappointment that the Liberals -- with the support of the New Democratic Party (NDP) -- were able to block a PC motion for a vote of non-confidence at Queen's Park Wednesday, . A successful vote of non-confidence in the government would trigger an election. Hudak also made it very clear the matter is not over. "We're going to keep down this path," he stressed. "We think Ontarians want to see their MPPs stand up and be counted. "Do they think this gas plant scandal is a big deal or is it simply the cost of doing business in our province? Our position is clear. Any time a government is putting its own interests ahead of the interests of taxpayers, they have crossed the line... and it is time to change the team." Hudak maintains the power plants, which were greatly unpopular in both communities, were cancelled in October 2010 (Oakville) and September 2011 (Mississauga) to save Liberal seats in the 2011 provincial election. Hudak also said he was not satisfied with the testimony given by the Liberals during the inquiry into the gas plant cancellations and noted that, if elected, he would put together a judicial inquiry to compel more detailed testimony. "Maybe it is going to take the threat of the sound of jail doors closing behind them to get these Liberals to tell the truth," said Hudak. He said a PC government would never have proposed the power plants for Oakville and Mississauga as both communities did not want them. As well, he said, the locations were too close to homes and schools. The Liberal government initially said the cancellation of the Oakville power plant would cost $40 million and the cancellation of the Mississauga power plant would have a pricetag of $190 million. The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) now says the costs are much higher with the Oakville plant at $310 million and the Mississauga plant at $275 million.
